The Florida A&M Rattlers and Miami Hurricanes play Saturday night at Sun Life Stadium for a week 2 matchup.
The Florida A&M Rattlers lost to the Jackson State Tigers, 22-17, in the final seconds, really putting a bad taste in their mouths heading into this matchup. The Rattlers got solid quarterback play from Damien Fleming, who threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns on 16 completions. Fleming also led Florida A&M with 59 rushing yards, as the Rattlers averaged 4.2 yards per carry as a team. The problem for the Florida A&M Rattlers was a defense that allowed the Tigers to go 11-18 on third down attempts and rack up 439 total yards. Peter Tulloch was the only bright spot for the Rattlers defensively, as he led the team with nine tackles and intercepted a pass that later helped set up a score.
The Miami Hurricanes suffered a disappointing, 31-13, loss to the Louisville Cardinals. With freshman quarterback Brad Kaaya in his first start, the Hurricanes were extremely vanilla offensively and relied heavily on Duke Johnson, who was constantly facing a stacked line of scrimmage. Kaaya had one touchdown pass and two interceptions, while Johnson had 90 rushing yards on 2 carries. Overall, the Miami Hurricanes turned the ball over three times and were a brutal 1-13 on third down attempts. Defensively the Miami Hurricanes were a lot better than they’ve been in year’s past, forcing two turnovers and five punts. Denzel Perryman had three tackles for loss, while Thurston Armbrister and Anthony Chickillo each forced a fumble.
Florida A&M is getting an insane amount of points here an I'm not sure I can turn them down after how careful the Hurricanes game plan was last week. Will the Canes open up their offense in this game? Who knows? I'm taking my chances with the Rattlers here.
