The Kentucky Wildcats and the Ohio Bobcats face off on Saturday in Lexington in a week two college football matchup.

The Kentucky Wildcats are trying to put a miserable 2013 in the past and they took a step towards doing that in their opener stomping an overmatch Tennessee-Martin team. UK racked up 656 yards of total offense and scored six rushing touchdowns. QB Patrick Towles completed 69 percent of his passes for 377 yards and a touchdown without throwing a pick. Braylon heard had just two carries but both went the distance for touchdowns and covered a combined 116 yards and Mikel Horton also scored twice. Kentucky spread the ball around in the passing game and Ryan Timmons led all receivers with three catches for 75 yards and Blake Bone had two catches including the lone Kentucky receiving TD. Kentucky’s defense clearly needs work as they allowed 398 yards to their FCS opponent. A.J. Stamps and Khalid Henderson each had eight tackles to lead the Wildcats defense and J.D. Harmon and Reggie Meant tallied two sacks each. Saturday’s win was a confidence builder for Kentucky but it doesn’t tell us too much about what lies ahead for the Cats.

Not much was expected out of the Ohio University Bobcats in week one against Kent State as they were underdogs but the Bobcats paid no attention and walk away with an opening week win. The Ohio offense racked up 437 yards and put the team in position to win as they did with a last second field goal. QB Derrius Vick avoided he big mistakes and threw for 262 yards and two touchdowns and he ran for another 35 yards. Daz’mond Patterson led the OU ground attack with 62 yards and he had three catches for 48 yards. Landon Smith led the Ohio receivers with seven catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively Ohio held the high powered Toledo offense to just 294 yards and 14 points led by Jovon Johnson’s 11 tackles and Devin Bass’ seven tackles. Fran Solich has worked wonders at Ohio and while the expectations were low this season, maybe they were set a little too low.

Kentucky is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven home games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, and 0-7 against the spread following a win. Ohio is 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 non-conference games, 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games, and 0-4 against the spread following a win.

In college football coaching plays such a huge part and Ohio has a gigantic edge in coaching in this one and while Ohio may have come up short last season of expectations, they appear to have wiped the slate clean and look well prepared this season. This is simply way too many points for this game and if anything I will be playing Ohio to win this one outright as well as taking the points.
