The Missouri Tigers and the Toledo Rockets face off on Saturday in Toledo in week two college football action.
The Missouri Tigers go their season started with a win knocking off FCS South Dakota State at home. Missouri was dominant putting 38 points on the board and 393 yards as well as getting a special teams touchdown on a kickoff return but Mizzou still clearly has plenty of things to work on after losing a lot of the talent from last year’s team. Maty Mauk had experience at QB coming in but he completed just a little over 50 percent of his passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns in week one. Russell Hansbrough looks like he will be carrying the load in the backfield and he rushed for 135 yards and a touchdown while Mauk spread the ball around in the passing game with Jimmy Hun and Marcus Murphy having three catches each and Darius White having two catches with both going for touchdowns. The Missouri defense allowed 365 yards and 18 points including 246 yards through the air. Markus Golden led the Missouri defense with 10 tackles including three for a loss, Michael Scherer ad nine tackles, and Aarion Fenton had seven tackles and an interception. Missouri had a lot to replace from last season and with a game under their belt I expect to see Gary Pinkel’s team to improve on both sides of the ball.

The Toledo Rockets opened their schedule with FCS New Hampshire and it was really just another reminder that there isn’t much reason for these type of games to be played. Toledo racked up 666 yards and 54 points in what was a cakewalk. Toledo QB Phillip Ely threw for 337 yards and four touchdowns with Alonzo Russell catching six pass and Corey Jones and Alex Zmolik each catching four passes. Toledo rushed for 318 yards led by Kareem Hunt who rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns. The Toledo defense allowed 375 yards with 338 of those coming through the air. Trent Voss and Junior Sylvestre led the defense with nine tackles each and Keenan Gibbs had one of the Rockets three sacks. Toledo has played against the big boys before so don’t expect them to back down here.
Missouri is 11-3-1 against the spread in their last 15 games, 8-2-1 against the spread following a win, and 1-3-1 against the spread against the MAC. Toledo is 3-1-1 against the spread in their last five non-conference games, 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games, and 1-6 against the spread in their last seven home games against a team with a winning road record.
This line looks like a trap but Missouri has the size, speed, and the coaching to avoid the upset and while this one could be right around the number it’s a lean to the visiting Tigers.
