The McNeese State Cowboys will open the season with a matchup against the Nebraska Cornhuskers on Saturday.
The McNeese State Cowboys are going through a rebuilding stage with much of their starters no longer on the roster, including decorated quarterback Cody Stroud. Instead, former Kansas State quarterback Daniel Sams will take over the offense, a former All-Big 12 honorable mention. Sams and McNeese State will have a solid offensive line to build around, as four of its five starters from a year ago return. The problem for the Cowboys are a lack of playmakers. Defensively, McNeese State relies heavily on a veteran defensive line made up of experienced and proven players such as Everett Ellefsen and Kevin Dorn. Bo Brown is a tackle machine for the Cowboys and makes tons of plays in the backfield.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are coming off a thrashing of the FAU Owls, 55-7. Tommy Armstrong Jr. had a solid game with 271 yards and two touchdowns, but Nebraska’s bread and butter throughout the victory was running back Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah made a strong case for some early Heisman love, as he rushed for 232 yards and a touchdown on only 21 carries. Nebraska’s offense was unstoppable from start to finish and produced close to 800 yards, 35 first downs and didn’t turn the ball over once. Defensively, the Nebraska Cornhuskers allowed only 200 yards and held the Owls to just 4-15 on third down attempts. Zaire Anderson led the Cornhuskers with seven tackles, while Nate Gerry had a forced fumble.
Nebraska should have no problem rolling in this game and winning in blowout fashion. While the chalk is high, I like it here.
