The New Mexico Lobos potent rushing attack came up short in a 31-24 loss at the the hands of the Texas-El Paso Miners Saturday. Both teams averaged over seven yards per carry but the difference was UTEP could throw the ball a bit and were mistake free while the Lobos turned the ball over three times. The passing of Cole Gautsche was a non factor with three completions for 36 yards but he was the highlight of a bruising UNM ground game that produced 410 yards. Gautsche rambled for 184 yards with scoring runs of 51 yards and 68 yards. Teriyon Gipson and Jhurell Pressley supplied the Lobos with a combined 155 yards so the Miners run D had their hands full. New Mexico had plenty of problems containing UTEP on the ground as well with Aaron Jones rushing for 237 yards and three TD's.
Arizona State will win easily because New Mexico will not keep them out of the endzone. The question is whether the Lobos will score enough to keep within the number. I am going with New Mexico's rushing attack to hog the ball with their run and burn some clock but I'm not as confident if Gautsche is out with a hamstring...
