The Arkansas State Red Wolves travel down to South Beach to play the Miami Hurricanes on Saturday.
Arkansas State lost at Tennessee 34-19 on Saturday and they are now 1-1 on the season. The Red Wolves produced 331 total yards, while allowing 415 total yards to the Volunteers. Arkansas State has won a share of the last three Sun Belt titles, but they have struggled against major-conference teams such as Tennessee. In 45 attempts, the Red Wolves have never beaten an SEC team when they belonged to that conference. Arkansas State’s 18-14 win over Texas A&M in 2008 marks the last win over a team from the Power 5 conference. Against Tennessee on Saturday, Arkansas State kept the game close heading into the 3rd quarter, but was unable to put points on the board early in the second half. QB Fredi Knighten completed 21 of 24 passes for 166 yards with 1 touchdown. Knighten also rushed 14 times for 65 yards and a touchdown. WR Tres Houston caught 4 balls for 48 yards, while WR J.D. McKissic caught 5 balls for 38 yards. The Arkansas State defense did not do a good job getting off the field on 3rd down and forced one turnover in the loss. The Red Wolves will face another tough test against a physical and athletic Miami team on the road.

The Miami Hurricanes destroyed Florida A&M 41-7 on Saturday after losing their first game of the season at Louisville two weeks ago. Miami produced 416 total yards while holding FAMU to only 114 total yards. The Hurricanes earned touchdowns on four of their first six possessions, rolling out to a 28-0 lead late in the first half. QB Brad Kaaya did not play that well in the win. Kaaya completed only 12 of 22 passes for 177 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Kaaya will need to play much better moving forward if the Hurricanes plan on making some noise in the ACC. WR Braxton Berrios caught 6 balls for 63 yards, while stud WR Phillip Dorsett caught 3 balls for 44 yards with 2 touchdowns. Star RB Duke Johnson rushed 9 times for 97 yards and a touchdown for Miami. It’s important to point out that Johnson’s night was over by halftime due to the large Hurricane lead. Miami pulled many of their first-stringers out before the third quarter ended. Miami will look to build on this victory with another home win this coming weekend.
Arkansas State is a tough team that will play hard all the way to the end no matter what the scoreboard reads. Miami is still trying to establish themselves as one of the elite teams in the ACC and they cannot afford to take a team like Arkansas State lightly. The Hurricanes will need to pound the ball with Duke Johnson early and often. After getting beat up by an SEC team last week, I think Miami will be too physical up front for Arkansas State to handle two weeks in a row. Miami wins by three touchdowns.
