The Minnesota Golden Gophers and Texas Christian Horned Frogs play Saturday afternoon at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
This will be the first challenge of the season for the Minnesota Golden Gophers, a team that's 2-0 with wins over Eastern Illinois and Middle Tennessee. The Golden Gophers want to establish their physicality on the offensive side of the ball and have done just that, averaging 5.2 rushing yards per carry and getting nearly 300 rushing yards from David Cobb in two games. The Golden Gophers will try to slow this game down and lean on a big offensive line, as quarterback Mitch Leidner manages the game. Leidner is completing just 50 percent of his passes for 211 yards. Defensively, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are allowing 427 yards and just under five yards per play. Damien Wilson leads Minnesota with 24 tackles and 1.5 sacks, while Jalen Myrick is one of four players with an interception.

The TCU Horned Frogs had an extra week to prepare for this game, as their only matchup so far was a 48-14 win over the Samford Bulldogs. The Horned Frogs are a fast paced team that looks to score early and often, and can do just that when dual-threat quarterback Trevone Boykin is effective. In his season debut, Boykin completed more than 70 percent of his passes for 320 yards and a couple of touchdowns. The Horned Frogs also rushed for 200 yards, as Trevorris Johnson led the way with 43 yards on the ground and a touchdown. Although the Texas Christian Horned Frogs are more than offense, as they allowed just 143 yards and 2.1 yards per play in their season opener. Marcus Mallet leads TCU with 10 tackles and Mike Tuaua has two sacks.
The Golden Gophers are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall. The Horned Frogs are 9-0 ATS in their last 9 games following a bye week and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 home games.
There's no way I'm leaving 14 points on the table with a solid Minnesota team. Head coach Jerry Kill has done a hell of a job with the program and the Gophers are certainly no slouch. This game will be a lot more competitive than what the oddsmakers believe.
