The UNLV Rebels look for their first win when the Northern Illinois Huskies visit Sam Boyd Stadium.
The Northern Illinois Huskies knocked off Northwestern 23-18 to kick off 2014 at 2-0. This was a defensive struggle for the first 30 minutes with no score heading in to the locker room before both teams foundthe groove offensively. Both squads finished with around 400 yards with the Wildcats leaning on the pass and the Huskies on the run. Drew Hare threw for 109 yards with a pair of touchdowns with Da'Ron Brown the Huskies top receiver with six catches for 128 yards with TD's of 18 yards and 59 yards. NIU was led on the ground by Akeem Daniels with 86 yards but this was a four yards and a cloud of dust effort with eight players getting touches.

The UNLV Rebels squeezed by Northern Colorado 13-12 to break in to the win column for the first time. Both teams had issues moving the chains with almost 330 yards of offense each with the Rebels clearly doing bettter on the ground with 211 rushing yards. On the flip side, the UNLV passing attack was mistake prone with Blake Decker going 11-18 for 121 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions while Marcus Sullivan's only attempt was also picked off. Keith Whitley and George Naufahu gave the Rebels a pretty good one, two punch in the backfield with a combined 172 yards on 24 carries.
The Rebels are missing some pieces from last season but they were projected to be better then we've seen thus far. They could be as we've seen only two games thus far so the season is still young. I'm looking at the Huskies right now but will update with any changes by Friday...
