The Akron Zips host the high powered offense of the Marshall Thundering Herd in Saturday action.
The Marshall Thundering Herd played a complete game for all four quarters in a 44-14 thumping of the Ohio Bobcats to stay unbeaten at 3-0. Marshall scored early and often with a 27-0 lead entering the half and never looked back with a 705-377 advantage in total yards telling how one sided this was. Rakeem Cato was productive through the air with 425 passing yards with four touchdowns and an interception with Angelo Jean-Louis and Davonte Allen pacing the Thundering Herd receiving corps with a combined 295 yards on nine catches with a trio of TD's. Steward Butler and Devon Johnson provided plenty of punch for Marshall on the ground with 119 yards and 91 yards respectively.

The Akron Zips are coming in off of a bye where they try to rebound from a 21-3 road loss at the Penn State Nittany Lions that evened their record at 1-1. Their downfall defensively was an inability to contain Christian Hackenberg and the Nittany Lions passing attack that produced 319 yards. The Akron offense had issues moving the chains consistently with only 277 yards with a 5-15 effort on third down conversions. With only 69 rushing yards the Zips turned to the short passing game of Kyle Pohl but his 208 yards and 4 1/2 yard average per pass needed more production down field. Pohl did connect with ten receivers but nothing to stretch the field.
If Marshall gets going offensively they will light up the scoreboard and leave Akron in the dust. The Zips have an improved look and I don't see them winning but fpr now I'll back the points on the home dog...
