The Arizona Wildcats and the California Golden Bears face off on Saturday in a Pac-12 College Football matchup.

The Arizona Wildcats haven’t had it easy but they enter week four unbeaten for the season. Rich Rodriguez’s team has looked stellar at times and suspect at others especially the past two weeks where the margin of victory was by one score. QB Anu Solomon continues to gain experience each week completing nearly 63 percent of his passes with eight TD’s while rushing for 121 yards. Nick Wilson has taken over the Arizona ground attack rushing for 449 yards and four touchdowns while Cayleb Jones is the Cats leading receiver with 16 catches and three touchdowns and Samajie Grant has 14 receptions. The Arizona defense has created just two turnovers, both interceptions, and they have six sacks. Scooby Wright is Arizona’s leading defender with 33 tackles and two sacks, Jared Tevis has 31 tackles and an interception, and William Parks has 17 tackles with an INT. Arizona is planning a “White Out” for this game which is a nice gimmick but really what this team needs is to create turnovers.

The California Golden Bears had a bye last week after starting the season 2-0 with an upset road win at Northwestern and a home win over FCS Sacramento State. Cal is coming off of one of their worst seasons in history so expectations are muted but hopes of course are high. QB Jared Goff has looked solid completing 67.9 percent of his passes with seven touchdowns. Cal has spread the ball around in the ground game with Daniel Lasco having the most success averaging 6.8 yards per carry with one touchdown. Kenny Lawler has eight catches for the Bears with three going for touchdowns while Darius Powe and Chris Harper have seven catches each. The Cal defense has three interceptions and a fumble recovery and have tallied five QB sacks. Jalen Jefferson is the leader of the California defense with 17 tackles, a sack, and an interception, Todd Barr has two sacks, and Griffin Platt has two interceptions. Cal has always had good athletes so they can’t be counted out too quickly.

Arizona is 1-4 against the spread in their last five Pac-12 games, 0-5 against the spread following a win, and 3-9 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Cal is 7-20 against the spread in their last 27 games, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight road games, and 2-12 against the spread in their last 14 Pac-12 games. The home team has covered the point spread in six of the last seven meetings of these two.

The line in this one has dropped significantly but it hasn’t dropped enough for me to make the wildcats an attractive option. Arizona still seems to be a raw work in progress and teams like that are susceptible to being beat or played close just about every week.
