The Arkansas Razorbacks and the Northern Illinois Huskies face off on Saturday in Fayetteville in college football action.
The Arkansas Razorbacks are off to a 2-1 start to the season and are coming off of their best win in two years beating Texas Tech last week. The Arkansas offense continues to be run first but Brandon Allen has completed 58.3 percent of his passes with six touchdowns. Alex Collins is the feature back for the Hogs averaging 8.2 yards per carry for 411 yards and five touchdowns and Jonathan Williams has six rushing TD’s while Demetrius Wilson leads the Arkansas receivers with just six catches. Defensively Arkansas has three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and seven sacks as they appear to be improved over last season. Martrell Spaight has 24 tackles to lead the Arkansas defense, Brooks Ellis has 20 tackles, and Taiwan Johnson has 3.5 sacks. While the Razorbacks are improved the jury is still out as to just how much.
USA TODAY Sports
The Northern Illinois Huskies are 3-0 after three weeks taking care of business all along the way. NIU QB Drew Hare has competed 62.7 percent of his passes with six touchdowns and he has also rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns. Da’Ron Brown is off to a monster start catching the football for the Huskies with 19 catches for 357 yards and four touchdowns. The Northern Illinois defense has been better against the run than against the pass but they have three interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 11 sacks. Marlon Moore has 18 tackles with an interception, Michael Santacaterina has 18 tackles, and Rasheen Lemon has 17 tackles and two sacks. Facing big time schools is nothing new for Northern Illinois.
Arkansas is 2-7 against the spread in their last seven home games, 5-13 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 1-5 against the spread following a win. Northern Illinois is 6-0 against the spread against the SEC, 8-3 against the spread in their last 11 games, and 2-5-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record.
The total is set to the high side but I can see both of these teams moving the football so my free pick is the over. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area and on the app.
