Tulane won their first game of the season, beating SE Louisiana 35-20 last weekend. Tulane lost at Tulsa in overtime and at home against Georgia Tech in their first two games of the 2014 season. Against SE Louisiana, the Green Wave produced 360 total yards while holding their opponent to only 271 total yards. Each team turned the ball over three times along with committing a combined 26 penalties for over 200 yards. The Duke Blue Devils improved to 3-0 on the year after beating Kansas at home 41-3 last weekend. The Blue Devils defeated Elon and Troy as well and have jumped out to a great start. Against Kansas, the Blue Devils gained 511 total yards, while holding the Jayhawks to only 297 total yards. Duke forced 2 turnovers and allowed Kansas to convert only 4 of 17 on 3rd down. QB Anthony Boone completed 19 of 32 passes for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Max McCaffrey caught 7 balls for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Shaun Wilson was the player of the game, rushing for 245 yards on 12 carries and 3 touchdowns. Duke is a well-coached team with several upper classman on both sides of the ball. The Blue Devils will look to keep things rolling on Saturday afternoon at home.
I think Duke is the much better team in this matchup and they should win comfortably. However, the Blue Devils have road games at Miami and Georgia Tech coming up and I could see them having a slight letdown in this spot. Tulane will be able to score some points, and it will come down to their ability to stop Duke’s rushing attack. Again, I think Duke wins but I’m going to take the points with Tulane in this one.
