The Iowa Hawkeyes and Pittsburgh Panthers meet Saturday afternoon at Heinz Field.
The Iowa Hawkeyes will look to shake their upset loss to the Iowa State Cyclones, but will have to get some type of offensive production out of their team. The Hawkeyes are averaging just 3.6 yards per carry, which includes leading rusher Mark Weisman, who is averaging just three yards per carry. Iowa wants to be a physical running team but isn’t getting much out of its backs, as the Hawkeyes are currently ranked 95th in the country in rushing yards. Quarterback Jake Rudock is completing 68.4 percent of his passes for 718 yards and four touchdowns. Iowa’s passing game has improved but things need to balance out if the Hawkeyes are going to compete in the Big Ten this season. Defensively, the Iowa Hawkeyes are allowing 320.3 yards, have forced four turnovers and seven sacks. Jordan Lomax leads the Hawkeyes with 24 tackles and Louis Trinca-Pasat has four tackles for loss.
USA TODAY Sports
The Pittsburgh Panthers have earned the attention from everybody in the ACC with a 3-0 start. The main guy for Pittsburgh is running back James Conner, who has 544 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on just 81 carries. Conner is a physical, tough running back who has helped Pittsburgh top 1,000 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns in just three games. Quarterback Chad Voytik manages the game with his 58 percent completion percentage and five touchdowns on 50 pass attempts. Overall, the Panthers are a team that wants to line up and run it down your throat. Defensively, the Pittsburgh Panthers allow 208.7 yards, have forced six turnovers and produced 10 sacks. Anthony Gonzalez leads Pittsburgh with 15 tackles and Terrish Webb has two interceptions.
The Hawkeyes are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games. The Panthers are 4-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a ATS loss.
The tougher team is going to win this game and right now that team is the Pittsburgh Panthers. Conner is an unstoppable force and the Panthers seem to be hungry with a point to prove. I look for Pittsburgh to win this game and cover the spread.
