The Washington State Cougars and the Oregon Ducks face of on Saturday in a Pac-12 college football matchup.
It has been a disappointing start to the season for the Washington State Cougars but they are coming off of their first win but unfortunately that was over FCS Portland State. Wazzu has made a bowl in both of Mike Leach’s first two years as Head Coach and they are going to need to rally if they want to make it three in a row. WSU QB Connor Halliday has rung up 12 touchdowns but he has also throwjng five interceptions in an offense that relies almost solely on the passing game. Jamal Morrow leads the Cougar ground attack but he has less than 100 yards through three games while Gerald Wicks has Washington State’s only rushing TD. Isiah Myers has been Washington State’ most productive offensive player with 26 receptions with five of those goingfor touchdowns and Vince Mayle has 25 receptions with three touchdowns. Defensively Washington State has two interceptions, one fumble recovery, and four sacks which just doesn’t get it done. Daquan Brown leads the WSU defense with 27 tackles, Darryl Monroe has 21 tackles, and Ivan McLennan and Xavier Cooper each have 1.5 sacks. Washington State’ wide open passing scheme can be effective but the Cougars haven’t been running it accurately nor efficiently this year.

The Oregon Ducks can be found near the top of the polls once again this season and after a disappointing end to last year they are hoping this one ends with plenty of hardware. Oregon QB Marcus Mariota returned to school this Fall and he looks like a star and a Heisman Trophy candidate once again with eight touchdown passes and no interceptions and rushing for 156 yards and three touchdowns. The Ducks rushing attack is led by Royce Freeman who has gained 186 yards and has five rushing TD’s while Byron Marshall is averaging 9.1 yards per carry. Marshall also leads Oregon in receptions with 12 and D Carrington is averaging 19.1 yards per reception. The under rated Oregon defense has four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 11 sacks. Reggie Daniels has 21 tackles to lead the Oregon defense, Tyson Coleman has two sacks, and D Buckner has 17 tackles including 3.5 for a loss. Oregon looks like they are going to be a contender to win it all once again this season.
Washington State is 4-1 against the spread in their last five Pac-12 games, 3-12 against the spread following a win by 20 or more points, and 5-2 against the spread in their last seven games in September. Oregon is 13-3 against the spread in their last 16 road games, 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games overall, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four Pac-12 games. The underdog has covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two.
This should be a high scoring game with two offenses that are built around moving the football in a hurry and as high as the total is I still like the over. My stronger play is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area and on the app.
