The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders look to control the high powered Old Dominion Monarchs in Friday night action.
The Middle Tennessee State Blue Raders struggled on both sides of the ball in a 36-17 defeat at Memphis in week four that dropped their record to 2-2. The offense totaled 325 yards, lost a pair of fumbles with one recovered by the Tigers for six and gave up a safety. Toss in an interception and the defense controlled the scoreboard despite giving up 480 yards. While Memphis was balanced on offense the Blue Raiders couldn't run and depended on the passing of Austin Grammer who's 24-37 effort for 237 yards fell short with Demetrius Frazier the only receiver stretching the field with 99 yards on seven catches.

Rice and the Old Dominion Monarchs traded blows for 60 minutes and when the final gun sounded the visiting Monarchs escaped with 45-42 win to improve to 3-1. Offense was clearly the name of the game with both exceeding 520 yards with ODU riding the right arm of Taylor Heinicke. So much for his sore shoulder as he hit on 27-43 for 430 yards and five touchdowns and zero picks. Zach Pascal paced the receiving corps with 111 yards on six receptions and a score as the quick strike ODU attack held the ball for just 22 minutes. The Monarchs did not run often but were productive when they dig with Heinicke adding 36 yards with his legs while Gerard Johnson totaled 50 yards on ten touches.
Whenever Old Dominion takes the field it's usually a question of them outscoring opponents to win. They get my vote now but I'll dig further as the week goes along....
