The Auburn Tigers and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs face off on Saturday in college football action.

The Auburn Tigers are off to a 3-0 start as they are thinking about redemption and getting back to the National Championship game. Auburn has a few extra days rest after beating a stubborn Kansas State team on the road in a Thursday Night game. Tigers QB Nick Marshall hasn’t really looked like his old self nor like a Heisman candidate so far but he certainly has the talent to change that in a hurry but so far it is 168 rushing yards and a 55 percent completion percentage though he has gotten zero help from his stone handed receivers. Cameron Artis-Payne anchors the Auburn rushing attack averaging 5.5 yards per carry with 4 touchdowns and Corey Grant is averaging 7.8 yards per carry seeing significant playing time. Of the Auburn receivers only D’haquille Williams has been able to hold onto the ball and eh leads the team with 21 catches with no one else being close. Defensively Auburn has six interceptions, a fumble recovery, and eight sacks. Jonathan Ford has 21 tackles, Kris Frost and DaVonte Lambert have two sacks each, and Trovon Reed and Jermaine Whitehead each have two interceptions. Auburn has played well enough to win games but they have a tough road ahead and will need to improve to repeat as SEC Champs.

After opening with a loss at Oklahoma and then winning impressively twice on the road, the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs lost a bad one last week dropping one 30-27 against FCS Northwestern State. La. Tech could have been looking ahead or just taken their opponent lightly but regardless it was a bad loss to take. QB Cody Sokol has completed 62.7 percent of his passes but to go with his 10 touchdowns he has five interceptions. Kenneth Dixon leads the La. Tech ground attack and he is matching the big expectations rushing for 5.9 yards per carry average and five touchdowns and catching 8 passes for two more touchdowns. S Griffin has 19 receptions to lead the Bulldogs as Trent Taylor, Hunter Lee, and Paul Turner all have 14 catches each. La. Tech’s defense has four interceptions, five fumble recoveries, and six sacks but as they learned last week losing the turnover battle can mean losing games. Kentrell Brice leads the Bulldogs defense with 26 tackles, C.J. Cleveland had 23 tackles, and Xavier Woods has two interceptions. Louisiana Tech has looked like a world-beater at times and as bad as it gets as others and if they don’t have their best game here it can get ugly fast.

Auburn is 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 home games, 5-1 against the spread in their last six non-conference games, and 16-5 against the spread in their last 21 games. Louisiana Tech is 4-0 against the spread against the SEC, 19-7 against the spread in their last 26 road games, and 1-6 against the spread against a team with a winning record. The home team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.

Auburn is bigger and faster but La. Tech can score if they aren’t turning it over and expect them to do enough to cover getting this gigantic number.
