The Tulane Green Wave and Rutgers Scarlet Knights will play Saturday at High Point Solutions Stadium.
While the Tulane Green Wave have been competitive for the most part in their three losses, the lack of defense has really removed much hope in winning games. Tulane has allowed 38 or more points in three of their first four games, and they’re allowing 414.8 yards per game. About the only hope for the Green Wave’s defense is to force turnovers, as Tulane has forced 10 turnovers and six sacks this season. Nico Marley leads Tulane with 34 tackles and Tyler Gilbert has 1.5 sacks. Offensively, the Tulane Green Wave look to run the ball a ton, as they’re averaging 4.6 yards per carry and Sherman Badie leads the team with 349 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback play has not been a strength for the Green Wave, as Tanner Lee is completing just 47.4 percent of his passes and has nine interceptions to eight touchdown passes. Tulane has to become a more balanced football team and improve defensively if this season is going to turn around.

While the Rutgers Scarlet Knights have gotten off to an impressive 3-1 start, they lost running back Paul James for the season with an injury. James led Rutgers with 363 rushing yards and had five of the teams nine rushing touchdowns. Rutgers will now rely on sophomore Desmon Peoples, who has 205 rushing yards on 46 carries. Overall, the injury just puts more pressure on quarterback Gary Nova who continues to have issues with decision making as he has six interceptions to six touchdown passes. Of course, this has been an issue for Gary Nova throughout his career as he now has 45 interceptions. Defensively, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are allowing 435 yards and have forced six turnovers and 17 sacks. Steve Longa leads Rutgers with 28 tackles and Kemoko Turay has four sacks.
The Green Wave are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS loss and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Scarlet Knights are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 home games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
I'm a little worried to see how Rutgers is going to perform without its star running back, but even without James in the lineup the Scarlet Knights are the better football team than Tulane. Rutgers will pressure the Green Wave all afternoon and should make enough offensive plays to win this game by two touchdowns.
