The Notre Dame Fighting Irish play the Syracuse Orange at MetLife Stadium on Saturday night.
Notre Dame is 3-0 on the season and the Fighting Irish had the week off and will be well rested coming into this game. Notre Dame has defeat Rice, Michigan, and Purdue so far this season. The Fighting Irish rank 3rd in the country in points against, allowing an average of 10.3 points per game. Notre Dame is producing 260 yards passing and 158 yards rushing per game on offense. The Fighting Irish are averaging an impressive 36.3 points per game and are led by senior QB Everett Golson. Golson has completed 62 of 96 passes for 780 yards and 7 touchdowns. Golson hasn’t thrown an interception in three games and has rushed for over 40 yards in two of Notre Dame’s games. Sophomore QR William Fuller leads the team in receiving with 19 catches for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns. Sophomore RB Greg Bryant leads the team in rushing with 22 carries for 119 yards and 1 touchdown. The Notre Dame defense has played outstanding so far this year, shutting out Michigan at home over two weeks ago. The Fighting Irish will now start a tough stretch of games and they have a matchup against Stanford at home on deck.

The Syracuse Orange dropped to 2-1 on the season after losing to Maryland at home 34-20 last weekend. The Orange defeated Villanova and Central Michigan to begin the season. Against Maryland, Syracuse outgained the Terps 589 to 369, but still lost the game? Syracuse turned the ball over twice and only converted 4 of 14 on 3rd down. QB Terrel Hunt completed 14 of 28 passes for 219 yards and 1 interception. The interception thrown by Hunt was returned 88 yards for a Maryland touchdown. Except for the one miscue, Hunt played well rushing for 156 yards on 23 carries and 2 touchdowns. WR Jarrod West led the team in receiving with 3 catches for 74 yards, while RB Prince-Tyson Gulley rushed for 138 yards on 14 carries for the Orange. Syracuse will have to stay mistake free this weekend when they face a hot Notre Dame team. The Orange will need to play solid defense and Hunt will need to have a career day offensively.
Notre Dame looks like a team on a mission so far this year, but they have one of the toughest schedules in the country moving forward. Syracuse is a good team but they cannot afford to make any mistakes against the Fighting Irish on Saturday. I think with two weeks to prepare, Notre Dame will come out with a solid game plan and Golson will have a big game. I think Notre Dame wins by at least two touchdowns.
