The Louisville Cardinals travel to Syracuse to play the Orange on Thursday night.
Louisville improved to 4-1 on the season after beating Wake Forest 20-10 last weekend. The Cardinals only loss of the year came on the road at Virginia by 2 points. Louisville has knocked off Miami, Murray State and FIU prior to the win last weekend. In the win over Wake Forest, the Louisville defense allowed only 100 total yards and forced three turnovers. Louisville kept Wake Forest to minus-22 yards rushing and 8 sacks in the win. The Cardinals offense gained 421 total yards with a well balanced attack, 206 passing yards and 215 rushing yards. QB Reggie Bonnafon completed 16 of 32 passes for 206 yards. It was Bonnafon’s first start, replacing an injured Will Gardner. Gardner is questionable for the game this Friday. RB Brandon Radcliff rushed 17 times for 129 yards and 2 touchdowns. Radcliff is listed as fourth on the depth chart and earned himself his first 100-yard effort of his college career. Louisville will try to keep things rolling on Friday night.

The Syracuse Orange dropped to 2-2 on the year after losing to Notre Dame on a neutral field last weekend, 31-15. The Orange won their first two games of the season over Villanova and Central Michigan, before losing to Maryland. Against Notre Dame, the Orange gained 429 total yards while giving up 523 total yards to the Fighting Irish. A total of five turnovers by Notre Dame allowed Syracuse to hang around in the game. The Orange turned the ball over once, committed 10 penalties for 85 yards, and converted only 3 of 15 on 3rd down. QB Terrel Hunt completed 22 of 38 passes for 294 yards and one interception. WR Jarrod West caught an outstanding 8 balls for 103 yards for the Orange. RB Riley Dixon carried the ball once for 42 yards. Syracuse has tried to turn Metlife Stadium into a home-away-from-home, but it’s not working out so well for the university that calls itself New York’s college team. Syracuse will now head back to the Carrie Dome and will try to get their season back on track after back to back losses.
Louisville is the better team in this matchup with or without Will Gardner. Gardner is questionable for the game on Friday and if he plays the Cardinals should win by double digits. Syracuse will struggle against a solid Louisville defense and they will have trouble stopping the Cardinals offense no matter who plays quarterback. The Orange couldn’t even beat a team that turned the ball over 5 times last week. I think the Cardinals come away with the win and the cover on Friday night.
