The North Carolina State Wolfpack travel to Clemson to play the Tigers on Saturday.
North Carolina State dropped their first game of the season to Florida State at home, 56-41, last weekend. NC State won their first four games of the season over Georgia Southern, Old Dominion, South Florida, and Presbyterian. Against Florida State, The Wolfpack gained 520 total yards while allowing 531 total yards to the Seminoles. NC State turned the ball over twice but the defense was able to force four turnovers against Florida State. QB Jacoby Brissett completed 32 of 48 passes for 359 yards and 3 touchdowns as the Wolfpack jumped out to a 17-points lead. WR Bo Hines caught 8 balls for 103 yards and 1 touchdown, while RB Shadrack Thornton carried the ball 18 times for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns. North Carolina State should feel good about themselves after competing at a high level with the #1 team in the country. The Wolfpack defense will need to play strong for four quarters against Clemson this weekend if NC State wants to earn a victory.

The Clemson Tigers improved to 2-2 on the year after beating North Carolina 50-35 at home last weekend. The Tigers have beaten S. Carolina State and North Carolina and they have lost to Georgia and Florida State. Clemson ranks 26th in the country in points scored led by QB Deshaun Watson, who has 914 passing yards and 10 touchdowns so far this season. Watson completed 27 of 36 passes for 435 yards and 6 touchdowns against North Carolina. Watson is the first true freshman to start for Clemson in 20 years and Coach Dabo Swinney said he earned it be being the most special player he’s seen in his seven years leading the Tigers. WR Germone Hopper had 3 catches for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns, while WR Mike Williams had 6 catches for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns as well. The Clemson defense played well early on in the game against North Carolina, allowing only 7-points in the first half. After the emotional loss to Florida State the week prior, Clemson responded well and they have a ton to look forward to moving forward.
Clemson has won nine of the last ten games against North Carolina State, including a 12-point win on the road last season. The Tigers are a dangerous team that deserved to beat the #1 team in the nation two weeks ago. Watson and the Clemson offensive should have no problem scoring on an average NC State defense. Meanwhile, Brissett and the Wolfpack should be able to put up some points, but it won’t be enough to earn the win in Death Valley. I think Clemson will get the win by two touchdowns so I’m not sold on which side to take here. However, I think this game will be a shootout and there will be at least 70 points on the board at the end of the day.
