The LSU Tigers and Auburn Tigers kick off an SEC matchup Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
The LSU Tigers could use a big win here to kind of get their shaky season back track. The formula hasn’t changed much for LSU, as it continues to rely heavily on a defense that’s allowing 13 points, 292.2 yards, and has forced 12 turnovers and 10 sacks. LSU has won 13 straight games when allowing 24 or less points. Kwon Alexander leads LSU with 30 tackles and Danielle Hunter has 4.5 tackles for loss. Offensively, freshman quarterback Brandon Harris is expected to get the nod, and he’s thrown five touchdowns and one interception in his last two games. Harris will have help from freshman running back Leonard Fournette, who has scored in three of his last four games and is coming off a 122-yard performance last week. Travin Dural is one of two LSU receivers with double-digit receptions, and he’s topped 100 receiving yards in three of the five games.

The Auburn Tigers look a lot like last year’s squad that used a solid running game and defense to get the job done. Defensively, Auburn is allowing 16.3 points, 313.3 yards, and has forced nine turnovers and nine sacks. Auburn has allowed no more than 21 points this season, which is a drastic improvement from a team that allowed 30-plus points five times a year ago. Cassanova McKinzy leads Auburn with 29 tackles and Montravius Adams has five tackles for loss. Offensively, Nick Marshall is completing 56.2 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and one interception, while he’s also rushed for 273 yards and two scores. D'haquille Williams is the only Auburn receiver with more than nine receptions, and he’s scored in three of the first four games. Cameron Artis-Payne is averaging 5.4 yards per carry and has five touchdowns, as he’s topped 100 rushing yards in three games this season.
LSU is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 conference games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Auburn is 9-0 ATS in their last 9 conference games and 9-1 ATS in their last 10 home games. LSU is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 meetings in Auburn.
It seems like the LSU Tigers play their best when they're doubted or when they're back is against the wall. I haven't been impressed with Auburn yet this season, as they should have lost to Kansas State a couple of weeks ago. Les Miles always has his guys prepared, and they'll find a way to make this game close if not win it. Give me LSU and the points.
