The Washington State Cougars and the Cal Golden Bears face off on Saturday Night at Martin Stadium in a Pac-12 college football matchup.
The Washington State Cougars are coming off of their biggest win of the year as they rallied in the fourth quarter for a win over Utah. The WSU offense has been fine all season averaging 33.8 points per game and led by experienced QB Connor Halladay who has completed 67.2 percent of his passes wot 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Wazzu doesn’t go to the ground often but it has been Jamal Morrow leading the charge with a 4.2 yards per carry average and Gerard Wicks averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Vince Mayle is Washington State’s leading receiver with 40 catches and five touchdowns, Isiah Myers has 36 catches and five touchdowns, and River Cracraft has 32 catches. Washington State’s defense continues to be an issue allowing 30.2 points per game with two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and 12 sacks. Daqwan Brown has 44 tackles, Darryl Monroe has 42 tackles, and Xavier Cooper and Ivan McLennan each have three sacks. Washington State has been competitive this season and they look like they can compete with just about anyone.
USA TODAY Sports
The Cal Golden Bears are off to a 3-1 start as they bounced back from their heart breaking loss to Arizona by beating Colorado in a thriller last week. The Cal offense has been explosive averaging 47.5 points led by QB Jared Goff who has completed 62.5 percent of his passes with 17 touchdowns and three interceptions. Daniel Lasco has been the Bears leading ground gainer averaging 6.3 yards per carry while Khalfani Muhammed has four rushing touchdowns. Kenny Lawler is California’s leading receiver with 13 catches and five touchdowns and Trevor Davis and Bryce Treggs each have 12 catches. The Cal defense has been shaky allowing 35.8 points per game with six interceptions, a fumble recovery, and eight sacks. Jalen Jefferson leads the Bears defense with 29 tackles, Michael Barton has 28 tackles, and Griffin Platt has 25 tackles. Cal is three wins away form being bowl eligible, something they haven’t been in a few years.
Washington State is 5-0 in heir last five Pac-12 games, 5-2 against the spread following a win, and 12-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Cal is 7-15 against the spread in their last 22 road games, 3-9 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 3-13 against the spread in Pac-12 games. The road team has covered the point spread in eight of the last 10 meetings of these two.
To me Washington State’s program just looks to be further ahead and I like them to win and cover at home here in a high scoring game.
