The Line: Pittsburgh Panthers -1 -- Over/Under: 44.5 See the Latest Odds
The Virginia Tech Hokies and Pittsburgh Panthers will play a Thursday night football game at Heinz Field.
The Virginia Tech Hokies have won two straight and are still in the running for the Coastal division. Offensively, the Hokies are led by quarterback Michael Brewer, who is completing 61.8 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Brewer has thrown at least one pick in each game and has thrown three touchdowns in his last two games. Freshman Marshawn Williams leads Virginia Tech with 337 rushing yards and the Hokies are trying to find depth beside him with Shai McKenzie out for the remainder of the season. However, Williams is also expected to miss this game due to an ankle injury. Isaiah Ford and Cam Phillips have combined for over 600 receiving yards and five touchdowns. Those two will have to have big games considering Virginia Tech’s running game is a mystery at this point. Defensively, the Virginia Tech Hokies are allowing 19.8 points, 325.2 yards, and they’ve forced 12 turnovers and 26 sacks. Chase Williams leads Virginia Tech with 49 tackles and Dadi Nicolas has 4.5 sacks.

The Pittsburgh Panthers have lost three straight games and are all of a sudden struggling to move the football. James Connor, who has 874 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, hasn’t scored or rushed for over 100 yards in two games. Chad Voytik is completing 58.7 percent of his passes for eight touchdowns and has thrown an interception in five straight games. Tyler Boyd leads Pittsburgh with 30 receptions for 428 yards and four touchdowns, but he hasn't scored in three straight games. Pittsburgh has lost six of its last seven games when scoring 21 or less points. Defensively, the Pittsburgh Panthers are allowing 19 points, 278.7 yards, and they’ve forced nine turnovers and 12 sacks. Anthony Gonzalez leads Pittsburgh with 36 tackles and Darryl Render has three tackles for loss.
The Hokies are 20-8 ATS in their last 28 Thursday games and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 road games. The Panthers are 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a bye week and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Hokies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 meetings in Pittsburgh.
The difference for me in this game is Virginia Tech's defense. The Hokies should be able to bottle up James Connor and force Pittsburgh into a lot of punts. I like the Hokies to come away with a close victory.
