The Notre Dame Fighting Irish travel to Doak Campbell Stadium to play the Florida State Seminoles on Saturday night.
Notre Dame improved to 6-0 on the season after beating North Carolina 50-43 at home last Saturday. Notre Dame has beaten the likes of Rice, Michigan, Purdue, Syracuse, and Stanford this season. The Notre Dame defense did not play well against North Carolina last week, allowing 510 total yards. On the season, the defense is allowing only 17.2 points per game, which ranks an impressive 8th in the country. The Fighting Irish led by QB Everett Golson produced 50 points and 519 total yards on offense against the Tar Heels last weekend. Golson threw for 300 yards and 3 touchdowns for the Fighting Irish. Golson has thrown for over 1,600 yards and 16 touchdowns, while also rushing for 200 yards and 4 more scores this season. The Fighting Irish offense is averaging 34.5 points per game, while averaging 280 yards thru the air and 163 on the ground so far this season. Golson’s main target is sophomore WR William Fuller, who has 35 grabs for 504 yards and 7 touchdowns this season. Notre Dame has not played a true road game this season, having played Purdue and Syracuse at neutral sites. The Fighting Irish will play their first of three straight road games this weekend.

The Florida State Seminoles improved to 6-0 on the season after winning at Syracuse 38-20 on Saturday. The Seminoles have also beaten the likes of Oklahoma State, Citadel, Clemson, NC State, and Wake Forest this season. The Florida State defense has not looked as sharp as last year up to this point in the season. The Seminoles are giving up an average of 20.7 points per game, which is still top 30 in the country. However, they have allowed 41 and 31 points in two of their contests and they are allowing teams to run the ball, which was not the case last season. Offensively, the Seminoles are averaging an impressive 39 points per game, while averaging 324 yards passing and 138 yards rushing per contest. The controversial QB Jameis Winston continues to preform well, throwing for 1,605 yards and 11 touchdowns so far this season. Senior WR Rashad Greene has caught 44 balls for 683 yards and 3 touchdowns. Senior RB Karlos Williams, who sat out last week but will play this weekend, has rushed for 353 yards on 74 carries with 5 touchdowns. This will be the Florida State Seminoles fourth home game.
These two teams last played in 2011 where Florida State won by 4-points. Florida State has not looked as solid as the Seminoles team we all witnessed last season. Having said that, I believe this could be a huge statement game for the Seminoles. Florida State has not been a good cover team this season, but at home under the lights I believe Winston and company will be too fast and explosive for the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame is good, but how good? Notre Dame’s biggest win was against a Stanford team whose offense is not anywhere near what the Seminoles bring to the table. Now is the time for Florida State to rise up, after being knocked off the #1 line, and show what their all about. A more talented, physical, and quicker Florida State team will win by at least two touchdowns on Saturday.
