The North Carolina State Wolfpack travel to Louisville to play the Cardinals at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The North Carolina State Wolfpack dropped to 3-4 on the year after losing to Boston College 30-14 at home last weekend. The Wolfpack have lost three straight games to Florida State, Clemson, and now Boston College after winning their first four games of the season against subpar competition. The Wolfpack are allowing an average of 28.7 points per game on the season, but they have given up 56, 41, and 30 points in their last three games. The NC State offense is averaging 30.9 points per game. The Wolfpack are producing an average of 225 passing yards and 188 rushing yards per game. Junior QB Jacoby Brissett has thrown for 1,573 yards with 14 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Freshman WR Bo Hines leads all receivers with 26 catches for 347 yards and 1 touchdown. Junior RB Shadrach Thornton has rushed for a team-high 423 yards and 7 touchdowns for the Wolfpack this season. This will be NC State’s third road game of the season; the Wolfpack have split their first two road games.

The Louisville Cardinals dropped to 5-2 on the year after getting beat by Clemson 23-17 on the road last weekend. The Cardinals won their first two games of the season against Miami and Murray State, dropped a game at Virginia, and then won three straight over FIU, Wake Forest, and at Syracuse before losing last weekend. The Louisville defense is allowing only 14.1 points per game, which ranks 3rd in the country. In the Cardinals last three wins they have allowed 3, 10, and 6 points. The offense is averaging 31 points per game this season. The Cardinals are averaging 229 passing yards and 141 rushing yards per game. Sophomore QB Will Gardner has thrown for 948 yards with 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions and has only played 5 games this season. Sophomore WR James Quick has 29 catches for 449 yards and 3 touchdowns, while RB Brandon Radcliff has rushed for 385 yards and 6 touchdowns. The Cardinals will head home after playing four of their last five games on the road.
Louisville is by far the better team in this matchup and they will be at home as well. The Cardinals should also get back WR DeVante Parker, who is probable for this game. NC State will struggle to score against a solid Cardinals defense. Louisville will put enough points on the board to win, but not enough to cover the large spread. I’ll back the Wolfpack to keep it within two touchdowns.
