The Purdue Boilermakers and Minnesota Golden Gophers play Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium.
Despite a 3-4 record, the Purdue Boilermakers are starting to figure things out and are coming off a fairly competitive game against the Michigan State Spartans. The difference for Purdue has been its offense, as Austin Appleby has completed at least 65 percent of his passes in his last two games and running back Akeem Hunt has four touchdowns in his last two games. Overall, Appleby is completing 60 percent of his passes for three touchdowns and two interceptions. On the outside, Danny Anthrop and Justin Sinz have combined for 52 receptions for more than 700 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Purdue has had its fair share of struggles offensively this season but is 3-1 SU when scoring more than 30 points. Defensively, the Purdue Boilermakers are allowing 30.1 points, 426.3 yards, and they’ve forced nine turnovers and 16 sacks. Landon Feichter leads Purdue with 66 tackles and Ryan Watson has four sacks.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are all of a sudden 5-1 and in first place in the Big Ten West. The Golden Gophers continue to rely on their defense to get the job done, as they’re allowing 18.7 points, 239.8 yards, and they’ve forced 16 turnovers and 11 sacks. Minnesota has won nine of its last 11 regular season games when allowing 21 or less points. Damien Wilson leads Minnesota with 66 tackles and Jack Lynn has two forced fumbles. Offensively, the Golden Gophers are all about the running game with a combination of David Cobb and Chris Streveler that has produced more than 1,000 yards and five touchdowns. Minnesota is averaging 4.7 yards per carry and has 11 running plays of more than 20 yards. Mitch Leidner is completing 54.9 percent of his passes for three touchdowns and five interceptions. Maxx Williams is the only Minnesota player with double-digit receptions and he has three of the Golden Gophers four touchdown receptions.
The Boilermakers are 3-1-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Golden Gophers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games and 10-3 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Boilermakers are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 meetings in Minnesota.
While Purdue is playing better, the Minnesota Golden Gophers are a better team on both sides of the ball and are starting to believe they have what it takes to reach the Big Ten Championship game. I like Minnesota to win this in a blowout.
