The Northern Illinois Huskies square off with the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks in week eight MAC action.
The Miami (Ohio) Redhawks don't have the record to back me up when I say they are a better team then we've seen in recent years but they have passed the I test...at least mine. The record took another hit in a 29-19 loss at Akron in week seven to fall to 1-6 on the season. This was a game I thought the Redhawks had a shot in but they fell behind and never clicked offensively. Miami (Ohio) won the yardage battle 352-318 but made too many mistakes with three turnovers and a whopping 12 penalties. The Redhawks had zero going on the ground but were outstanding through the air behind Andrew Hendrix who connected on 24-41 for 352 yards with three touchdowns and an interception. David Frazier paced the receiving corps with nine catches for 132 yards with scores of three yards and 18 yards. Drives faltered too often for the Redhawks while the Zips were a bit better at keeping drives alive.

The Northern Illinois Huskies were one of the preseason favorites to challenge for the MAC title but took an early season hit in a 34-17 loss to visiting Central Michigan Saturday. The Chippewas took an early lead and it grew slowly with NIU unable to get defensive stops or keep drives going. The Chippewas piled up 552 yards split almost evenly between the run and pass while the Huskies totaled 341 yards with very little coming on the ground. NIU did try to establish something on the ground with Cameron Stingily and Joel Bouagnon combining for 86 yards on 23 carries but it wasn't enough to worry the Chips defense. Drew Hare did have some success in the air by hitting 18-33 for 231 yards with Juwan Brescacin grabbing 14 yard and 20 yard touchdown throws. A key number was the Huskies 21 minutes of possession which meant no long drives.
The Redhawks are 1-7-1 ATS when allowing less then 170 yards in their previous game but 4-1 ATS when running for less then 100 yards in their previous game while going 1-7-1 after an ATS win. The Huskies are 0-4 ATS in the last four following an ATS loss, 0-4 ATS in the last four conference games and 0-3-1 ATS afte a DD home loss. Head to head the underdog is 0-4 ATS with the home team 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings while the Redhawks are 4-1 ATS in the past five match ups.
Northern Illinois continue to be the better team in this match up and will get the win. The problem is the Huskies have been so good for so long and Miami (Ohio) has been down for so long that most people just back the Huskies without much thought. In this one I don't see much explosiveness from the respective offenses and prefer the under right now so please check back Friday...
