The Line: Florida State Seminoles -- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
In the game of the week, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Florida State Seminoles will meet Saturday night at Doak Campbell Stadium.
Notre Dame is a balanced football team but butters its bread for the most part on the defensive side of the ball. The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are allowing 17.2 points, 348.3 yards, and they’ve forced 14 turnovers and 12 sacks. Notre Dame has won 29 regular season games SU when allowing 24 or less points. Jaylon Smith leads Notre Dame with 49 tackles and Cole Luke has three interceptions. Offensively, Everett Golson is completing 62.5 percent of his passes for 16 touchdowns and four interceptions. Notre Dame has seven different receivers with double-digit receptions and has produced 12 passing plays of 25 or more yards. William Fuller leads the Irish with 504 receiving yards and has caught seven touchdowns. Notre Dame’s ground game is averaging 4.3 yards per carry, and Golson and Tarean Folston have rushed for six touchdowns.
USA TODAY Sports
The Florida State Seminoles are dealing with more Jameis Winston off-the-field issues, but he’s expected to play at this point. Of course, the Seminoles go as far as Winston carries them, as he’s completing 70 percent of his passes for 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. Florida State has tons of weapons on the outside, including Rashad Greene who leads FSU 683 yards and three touchdowns. Florida State has 15 passing plays of 25 or more yards and six different players with at least one touchdown reception. Florida State’s ground game is averaging 4.3 yards per carry, and Karlos Williams and Mario Pender have combined for nine rushing touchdowns. Williams is expected to play despite an ankle injury. Defensively, the Florida State Seminoles are allowing 20.7 points, 358.5 yards, and they’ve forced 11 turnovers and eight sacks. Reggie Northrup leads Florida State with 50 tackles and Nate Andrews has two interceptions.
The Fighting Irish are 5-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in October. The Seminoles are 9-3 ATS in their last 12 home games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Due to the questions with Winston, you’ll be lucky to find an active line. However, regardless of whether he plays or not (likely will), I like the Irish to win this game outright. Florida State simply hasn’t impressed me by beating up basketball schools. Notre Dame seems to be getting better each week and finally has the athletes on both sides of the ball to compete with the big boys.
I look for Notre Dame to win this game.
