The Miami Hurricanes travel to Virginia Tech to play the Hokies on Thursday night.
Miami improved to 4-3 on the year after beating Cincinnati 55-34 at home two weeks ago. The Hurricanes have lost to Louisville, Nebraska, and Georgia Tech all on the road this season. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes have defeated Florida A&M, Arkansas State, and Duke at home this season. Against Cincinnati, the Hurricanes produced 621 total yards, while allowing 422 total yards to the Bearcats. The Hurricanes forced 3 turnovers and held the Bearcats to only 67 rushing yards. QB Brad Kaaya completed 17 of 24 passes for 286 yards and 3 touchdowns. WR Phillip Dorsett caught 3 balls for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Duke Johnson carried the ball 10 times for 162 yards and 1 touchdown. On the season, Kaaya has thrown for 1,806 yards and 16 touchdowns, while Dorsett has 16 grabs for 550 yards and 6 touchdowns. Johnson is the best player on the team, rushing for 7897 yards and 6 touchdowns so far this year. The Hurricanes will try to earn their first road win of the season on Thursday night.
USA TODAY Sports
The Virginia Tech Hokies dropped to 4-3 on the season after losing at Pittsburgh 21-16 last weekend. The Hokies started off 2-0 on the year before losing back to back games at home against East Carolina and Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech beat Western Michigan and North Carolina after the two losses, but failed to earn a victory against Pittsburgh last weekend. The Hokies gained only 291 total yards and converted 2 of 14 on 3rd down. QB Michael Brewer completed 26 of 45 passes for 265 yards and 1 touchdown. WR Cam Phillips caught 7 balls for 59 yards and 1 touchdown. The Hokies only rushed for 26 yards, while allowing 210 rushing yards to the Panthers. On the year, Virginia Tech ranks 19th in points against, allowing an average of 20 points per game. However, the offense is struggling with only 28.4 points per game, which ranks 29th in the country. Virginia Tech lacks a big time running back and the play of Brewer has been too inconsistent. The Hokies will have a short week to prepare for the visiting Hurricanes this Thursday night. Virginia Tech is 2-2 at home this year.
Virginia Tech has won four of the last five meetings with the Hurricanes, including a 42-24 win last season down in Miami. The Hokies have been inconsistent offensively, but they will face a Miami defense that has given up a good amount of points this season. Meanwhile, Miami will try to establish the run early and often with Duke Johnson. I think this will be a close game and the team with the ball last might earn a victory late. I’m going to take the home dog.
