The Line: Clemson Tigers -14.5 -- Over/Under: 47 See the Latest Odds
The Syracuse Orange travel to Clemson to play the Tigers on Saturday evening.
Syracuse improved to 3-4 on the season after beating Wake Forest 30-7 last weekend. The Orange snapped a four game losing streak in which they lost to Maryland, Notre Dame, Louisville, and Florida State. Syracuse won their first two games of the season against Villanova and Central Michigan. Against Wake Forest, the Orange produced 370 total yards, while the defense held the Demon Deacons to only 170 total yards. The Syracuse defense forced 2 turnovers and limited Wake Forest to just 3 for 15 on 3rd down. On the year, the defense is allowing only 23.9 points per game, which ranks 50th in the country. QB AJ Long completed 22 of 32 passes for 171 yards. WR Steve Ishmael caught 6 balls for 72 yards, while RB Devante McFarlane led the Orange in rushing with 114 yards. This was the freshman quarterback’s, Long, second game as the starter and he played great. Syracuse as a team is averaging 22.6 points per game, which is terrible. Against the Demon Deacons they reached 30 points for only the second time this season. Syracuse will head out for their third road game of the year; the Orange are 2-2 away from home this season.

The Clemson Tigers improved to 5-2 on the season after winning at Boston College 17-13 last weekend. The Tigers have won four straight games over North Carolina, NC State, Louisville, and now Boston College. The Tigers lost two of their first three games of the season to Georgia and Florida State. Against Boston College, Clemson out gained the Eagles 398 to 263 in total yards. The Clemson defense allowed only 120 rushing yards and allowed the Eagles to convert only 2 of 14 on 3rd down. The Tigers defense is allowing only 20 points per game, which ranks 19th in the country. Offensively, the Tigers were led by QB Cole Stoudt, who passed for 285 yards in the win over Boston College. Stoudt is taking the spot of QB Deshaun Watson, who is out with an injury for the Tigers. WR Mike Williams played outstanding, finishing with 8 catches for 128 yards. The Clemson offense is averaging an impressive 34.6 points per game this year, which ranks 36th in the country. Clemson will be hosting their fifth home game at Memorial Stadium; the Tigers are a perfect 4-0 at home this season.
The Clemson Tigers beat Syracuse on the road last year 49-14. The Tigers, even without Watson, look like a solid team right now. The Clemson defense is playing strong and I expect them to be stingy on Saturday against the Orange. Stoudt and Williams should have some success through the air against an average Syracuse secondary. I think Syracuse will be outplayed on Saturday, and Clemson will win by 20.
