The USC Trojans and Utah Utes square off Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
The USC Trojans find themsevles in the Pac-12 South lead with wins in three of their last four games. USC is getting the job done on the offensive side of the ball, as Cody Kessler is completing 69.5 percent of his passes for 18 touchdowns and one interception. Kessler has eight touchdowns and just one pick in his last two games. USC is 16 passing plays of 25 or more yards and is averaging 11.6 yards per reception. USA TODAY Sports
The Utah Utes look to get back in the Pac-12 race and play their first home game in a month. Utah is all about running the football, as it averages 4.5 yards per carry and is led by Devontae Booker, who has 563 rushing yards and five touchdowns in his last three games. It’s been a while since Utah has had a potent running game, but the Utes are 10-1 SU in their last 11 games when rushing for 200-plus yards. Travis Wilson hasn’t had to do much at quarterback, but he’s completing 56.8 percent of his passes for seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. Wilson hasn’t thrown for a score in three weeks due to the running back taking over. Dres Anderson and Kenneth Scott have combined for more than 500 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Defensively, the Utah Utes are allowing 21.7 points, 379 yards, and they’ve forced 11 turnovers and 33 sacks. Jared Norris leads Utah with 58 tackles and Nate Orchard has 13 tackles for loss.
The Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 road games. The Utes are 5-0 ATS vs. a team with a winning record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
Both these teams take pride in running the ball and playing defense, so my play on this game is the over. However, my stronger play is on the side and it will be placed in the premium section and on the app.
