The Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Arkansas Razorbacks face off on Saturday in SEC college football action.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs are ranked number one in the nation but with a tough road ahead their work is far from done if they hope to be part of the College Football Playoff. Mississippi State’s offense has been one of the best in the country and the MSU defense has allowed yards in bunches but they have made plays when they need them. Dak Prescott is in the Heisman Trophy discussion throwing for 1,694 yards and 15 touchdowns and rushing for 664 yards and 10 touchdowns. Josh Robinson also has 10 rushing touchdowns gaining 887 tough yards while De’Runnya Wilson has 20 catches and six touchdowns and Jameon Lewis appears to be healthy again as well. While the offense is averaging an impressive 531.4 yards per game but the defense allows 439.6 yards but they have sacked opposing QB’s 27 times. Bernardrick McKinney has 45 tackles and three sacks, Beniquez Brown has 38 tackles, and Preston Smith has six sacks. Mississippi State is going to need to take it one game at a time as there are no easy weeks in the SEC.

The Arkansas Razorbacks are in a tough spot as they can’t beat anyone in their conference and they are in a deep financial obligation to their Head Coach. Arkansas has looked good beating non-SEC teams but in the conference they haven’t gotten a win in over two years. Head Coach Brett Bielema’s buyout of his contract if it takes place over the next two years is 12.6 million dollars making it a nearly impossible decision to go with anyone else. QB Brandon Allen has completed 59.2 percent of his passes with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions as the Hogs offense is run first. Jonathan Williams leads the Arkansas ground attack rushing for 830 yards and 10 touchdowns and Alex Collins has 747 yards and nine touchdowns and Keon Hatcher is the leading receiver with 25 catches. Arkansas has lost eight fumbles and they are allowing 25.6 points per game. Martrell Spaight has 72 tackles, Taiwan Johnson has 3.5 sacks, and Try Flowers is among those with 39 tackles. Arkansas is looking for a big win to get their program back on their feet and they have another opportunity here.
Mississippi State is 7-1 against the spread in their last eight SEC games, 6-1 against the spread in their last seven home games, and 10-2 against the spread in their last 12 games. Arkansas is 7-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, and 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games. The home team has covered the point spread in 10 of the last 12 meetings of these two.
I am still diging through the numbers and I will update this with my free pick on Tuesday evening so please check back then.
