The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Tennessee Volunteers face off on Saturday in Columbia in SEC college football action.

The expectations were high for the South Carolina Gamecocks this season but at 4-4 they have fallen well short. The South Carolina offense has been good enough but the defense has been a let down. The Gamecocks are averaging 35.1 points and 561.4 yards per game and are led by QB Dylan Thompson who has completed 60.8 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Mike Davis leads the SC ground attack rushing for 750 yards and eight touchdowns and Pharoh Cooper leads the receivers with 40 receptions and six touchdowns and Nick Jones has 31 receptions. Defensively South Carolina is allowing 32.8 points and 437.5 yards per game as they get no pressure on opposing QB’s as they have just eight sacks. Skai Moore has 51 tackles, T,J, Gurley has 48 tackles, and Gerald Dixon has 31 tackles. This season has been a big disappointment for the Gamecocks.

South Carolina vs. Tennessee - 11/1/14 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

The Tennessee Volunteers have had a rough go of it this season but with a strong finish the Vols still have a chance to make a bowl game. Tennessee has just look over matched against SEC competition and they might not have the personnel on the roster to get it done right now. The UT offense is averaging 23.9 points and 332.4 yards per game but they looked improved last game when Joshua Dobbs stepped in at QB completing 19 of 32 passes with two touchdowns and an interception and he also ran for 75 yards. Jalen Hurd leads the Vols ground game averaging 4.2 yards per carry and Marquez North and Alton Howard each have 30 receptions to lead the Tennessee receivers. The Volunteer defense allows 22.9 points and 343.8 yards per game with 19 sacks and 16 forced turnovers. A.J. Johnson is Tennessee’s best defender with 86 tackles, Jalen Reeves-Maybin has 63 tackles, and Derek Bennett and Curt Maggitt each have four sacks. Tennessee has shown some signs of improvement but it has been a very difficult season.

South Carolina is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven SEC games, 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games, and 1-4 against the spread in their last five games. Tennessee is 4-1 against the spread following a loss, 5-17-1 against the spread following a game that they covered the point spread, and 2-7 against the spread in their last nine November games. The road team is 12-4-1 against the spread in the last 17 meetings of these two.

Tennessee has a new wrinkle at QB and that could keep this one close so I will take the points at beter than a touchdown.
