The Vanderbilt Commodores and the Old Dominion Monarchs face off on Saturday in Nashville in college football action.
The Vanderbilt Commodores have had a tough season and they must win out if they hope to go to a bowl game. Vandy is 0-5 in the SEC with both of their wins coming out of conference. The Vanderbilt offense is averaging just 17.1 points and 66.6 yards per game and they have gone through a weries of QB’s and most recently are using Wade Freebeck who has completed 47.2 percent of his passes with one touchdown and five interceptions. Ralph Webb leads the Vanderbilt rushing attack with 594 yards and two touchdowns and Steven Scheu leads the receivers with 25 receptions and C.J. Duncan has 21 catches. The Vanderbilt defense allows 32.8 points and 412 yards but with just 12 QB sacks they haven’t applied much pressure to opposing QB’s. Nigel Bowden has 65 tackles, Torren McGaster has 44 tackles, and Caleb Azubike has 4.0 sacks. Vanderbilt is going through a rebuilding process after losing Head Coach James Franklin to Penn State.

The Old Dominion Monarchs have lost their last four games and enter this contest at 3-5. The ODU offense is averaging 33.1 points and 444.9 yards led by QB Taylor Heinicke who has completed 63.2 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Ray Lawry leads the Old Dominion rushing attack with 551 yards and 11 touchdowns and Gerard Johnson has 461 yards and Zach Pascal has 40 receptions and five touchdowns and Adam Vaught has 37 receptions and nine touchdowns. The Old Dominion defense is allowing 40.5 points and 481 yards creating 13 turnovers and 12 sacks. D.J. Simon has 58 tackles, Fellonte Misher has 56 tackles, and Martez Simpson has 48 tackles. ODU clearly has the offense but the defense is an issue.
Vanderbilt is 5-1 against the spread against CUSA, 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, and 1-5 against the spread in their last six games. Old Dominion is 0-5 against the spread following a loss and 0-4 against the spread in their last five games.
Vanderbilt has the better team but ODU can score and I look for them to use that ability to cover.
