The Washington State Cougars and the USC Trojans face off on Saturday in Pac-12 college football action.
The Washington State Cougars are having a tough season winning just two games and losing their last three. Washington State has lost their last two games by a combined 39 points as it looks like it has gone from bad to worse. Washington State is averaging 35.2 points and 535.8 yards per game led by QB Connor Halliday who has completed 67.3 percent of his passes with 32 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Running isn’t a focus of the WSU offense but Jamal Morrow leads the Cougars with a 4.4 yard per carry average and Vince Mayle is the leading receiver with 71 receptions and eight touchdowns. Defensively Washington State allows 38 points and 444.6 yards per game getting to the opposing QB’s and sacking them just 16 times. Darryl Monroe has 59 tackles, Daquawn Brown has 57 tackles, and Jeremiah Allison has 51 tackles. This season has been a major disappointment for the Cougars.
USA TODAY Sports
The USC Trojans have been up and down this season as they seem to have a world of talent but a lack of depth and subpar Head Coaching have done them in. Southern Cal is coming off of a three-point loss at Utah in a game they had every chance to win. The Trojans offense is averaging 33.8 points and 450.4 yards per game led by QB Cody Kessler who has completed 70.2 percent of his passes for 20 touchdowns and two interceptions. Javorius Allen anchors the USC running game with 1010 yards and eight touchdowns and Nelson Agholor is the USC top receiver with 58 catches and seven touchdowns. Defensively USC allows 23.2 points and 395.5 yards and have forced 14 turnovers. Hayes Pullard is the Trojans leading tackler with 59, Leonard Williams has 51 tackles and 4.5 sacks, and Anthony Sarao has 49 tackles. Southern Cal has to be second-guessing themselves in their coaching selection decision last offseason.
Washington State is 6-0 against the spread following a double-digit home loss, 2-5 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 14-5-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread. USC is 5-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the spread, 9-4 against the spread in their last 13 Pac-12 games, and 4-13 against the spread in their last 17 road games. The road team has covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two.
This is a tough one as Washington State has been so bad and USC’s Head Coach is one of the worst in the nation that isn’t already on the hot seat but I look for Sark to coach the Trojans right out of a cover with a chance for them to lose outright.
