The Louisville Cardinals travel to Boston College to play the Eagles on Saturday.
Louisville dropped to 6-3 on the year after losing at home to Florida State 42-31 last week. The Cardinals have knocked off Miami, Murray State, FIU, Wake Forest, Syracuse, and NC State. Louisville has lost to Virginia, Clemson, and now Florida State. Against the Seminoles, the Cardianls allowed 574 total yards, but forced three turnovers in the loss. On the year, the Cardinals are allowing only 17.7 points per game on average this season, which ranks an impressive 8th in the country. Louisville’s offense is averaging 30.9 points per game, which ranks 57th in the country. The Cardinals gained 488 total yards against Florida State last week and turned the ball over twice. QB Will Gardner completed 20 of 38 passes for 330 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. WR DeVante Parker had a huge game, catching 8 balls for 214 yards. RB Michael Dyer also played well, finishing with 28 carries for 134 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Cardinals will now head out on the road for the fifth time this season; Louisville is 2-2 on the road this season.
The Boston College Eagles improved to 6-3 on the season after beating Virginia Tech on the road 33-31 on Saturday. The Eagles have won two straight games and have wins over UMass, USC, Maine, NC State, and Wake Forest this season. Boston College has lost to Pittsburgh, Colorado State, and Clemson in 2014. Against Virginia Tech, Boston College allowed 414 yards but forced one turnover and limited the Hokies to just 7 of 20 on 3rd down. On the year, the Eagles rank 19th in points against, allowing an average of 20.1 points per game. Boston College’s offense is average a mediocre 27.4 points per game, which ranks 80th in the country. The Eagles gained 368 total yards against the Hokies and did not turn the ball over once. QB Tyler Murphy completed 8 of 15 passes for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns. Murphy also rushed for a team high 122 yards and a score. Boston College will be hosting their sixth game of the season; the Eagles are 2-3 at home this season. The Eagles will need to stay focused heading into this game with Louisville considering they have the defending champions, Florida State, on deck in two weeks.
These two teams have not played since 1998 so there is no history to go off of here. Both teams have solid defensive units and I think this game will remain low scoring throughout. Louisville has more playmakers than Boston College, but the Eagles are at home and Louisville hasn’t played great on the road. Louisville is also coming off a tough loss to Florida State and I think they will be due for a let down here. I think Boston College at least keeps it close, so I’ll take the points in this one, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Eagles won this outright.
