The West Virginia Mountaineers and Texas Longhorns square off Saturday at Royal Texas Memorial Stadium.

The West Virginia Mountaineers blew last week’s game against the TCU Horned Frogs and now look to remain undefeated on the road. West Virginia relies on its offense led by Clint Trickett, who is completing 67.5 percent of his passes for 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. West Virginia has 30 passing plays of 25 or more yards, and Trickett has six touchdowns and three interceptions in his last three games. Kevin White leads WVU with 1,075 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, but he has just 55 receiving yards in his last two games. Mario Alford has caught a touchdown in three straight games and Jordan Thompson has 12 receptions in his last two games. West Virginia’s ground game is averaging four yards per carry, as Wendell Smallwood and Rushel Shell have racked up more than 1,000 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Dreamius Smith has scored in three straight games. Defensively, the West Virginia Mountaineers are allowing 25.7 points, 389 yards, and they’ve forced eight turnovers and 15 sacks. Nick Kwiatkoski leads WVU with 69 tackles and Shaquille Riddick has five sacks.

Texas vs. West Virginia - 11/8/14 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Texas Longhorns have split their last four games and need a win to increase their odds of making a bowl game. Texas continues to rely on a defense that’s allowing 23.1 points, 352.4 yards, and has forced 16 turnovers and 27 sacks. The Texas Longhorns have allowed 24 or less points in 10 of their last 18 games. Jordan Hicks leads Texas with 101 tackles and Steve Edmond has 9.5 tackles for loss. Offensively, Tyrone Swoopes is completing 59.3 percent of his passes for nine touchdowns and five interceptions. Swoopes hasn’t thrown a pick in two straight games and the Longhorns are 2-2 SU when that’s the case. Texas has 18 passing plays of 25 or more yards, and John Harris and Jaxon Shipley have combined for more than 1,300 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. The Longhorns ground game is averaging four yards per carry, as Malcolm Brown and Johnathan Gray have combined for nine rushing touchdowns. The Texas Longhorns have won 14 straight games when rushing for at least two touchdowns.

The Mountaineers are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 conference games and 11-1 ATS in their last 12 road games vs. a team with a losing home record. The Longhorns are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win and 5-13 ATS in their last 18 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

The West Virginia Mountaineers have already gone toe-to-toe with the Big 12s best by beating Baylor and taking TCU down to the last play of the game. It's fair to say the Texas Longhorns aren't one of the better teams in the Big 12 and are just a mess on offense. West Virginia should have little trouble winning and covering the small number.
