The Virginia Tech Hokies travel to Duke to play the Blue Devils on Saturday afternoon.
The Virginia Tech Hokies dropped to 4-5, 1-4 ACC on the year after losing to Boston College 33-31 two weeks ago at home. The Hokies have dropped three straight games to Pittsburgh, Miami, and now Boston College. Against the Eagles, the Hokies allowed 368 total yards and held them to only 3 of 13 on 3rd down. On the year, Virginia Tech is allowing only 22.6 points per game, which ranks 35th in the country. The Hokies have given up 30 and 33 in their last two games, the only two times they have allowed 30 or more points all season. The Hokies offense gained 414 total yards against Boston College and turned the ball over once. QB Michael Brewer completed 31 of 48 passes for 345 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Isaiah Ford caught 7 balls for 75 yards, while WR Sam Rogers caught 4 balls for 70 yards. RB Marshawn Williams carried the ball 13 times for only 32 yards and a touchdown. On the season, the Virginia Tech offense is averaging only 26.2 points per game, which ranks a below average 84th in the country. The Hokies will now head out on the road for back to back conference games; Virginia Tech is 2-1 away from home this season.

The Duke Blue Devils improved to 8-1, 4-1 ACC after beating Syracuse 27-10 on the road last week. The Blue Devils have won four straight over Georgia Tech, Virginia, Pittsburgh, and not Syracuse after losing their only game to Miami back in September. Against Syracuse, The Blue Devils gave up only 224 total yards and forced two turnovers. On the year, the Duke defense is allowing an average of only 18.2 points per game, which ranks a solid 11th in the country this season. On the season, the Blue Devils offense is averaging an impressive 34.8 points per game, which ranks 31st in the nation. QB Anthony Boone completed 15 of 33 passes for 161 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception against Boston College last weekend. WR Jamison Crowder, who is one of the best receivers in the country, caught 9 balls for 58 yards. RB Shaquille Powell carried the ball 17 times for 68 yards for the Blue Devils. Duke has won three of their past four on the road so they will be happy to be back home for this one. The Blue Devils are a perfect 4-0 at Wallace Wade Stadium this season.
Virginia Tech has won nine of the last ten meetings with Duke, but the Blue Devils did win last year at Virginia Tech 13-10. The Hokies are average on defense and lousy on offense this season. Brewer is not that great of a quarterback and the Hokies can’t seem to consistently get their running game going. Duke on the other hand is solid on both sides of the ball and is on a mission to get back to the ACC championship game. I believe the Blue Devils will grab a lead early and control the game from there. Virginia Tech just doesn’t have the fire power to compete in this one. Duke wins by double-digits.
