The Indiana Hoosiers and Rutgers Scarlet Knights play Saturday at High Point Solutions Stadium.
The Indiana Hoosiers have lost four straight games and have to win out if they hope to clinch a bowl game. The issues for Indiana start with a defense that’s allowing 32.3 points, 433.1 yards, and has forced nine turnovers and 20 sacks. The Indiana Hoosiers have allowed 30-plus points in 12 of their last 16 games. Bobby Richardson has 7.5 tackles for loss and Antonio Allen has 51 tackles. Offensively, Indiana is averaging 5.8 yards per carry, as Tevin Coleman and D'Angelo Roberts have combined for more than 1,800 yards and 17 touchdowns. Indiana has 18 running plays of 20 or more yards and has won eight of its last 13 games when rushing for 200-plus yards. Indiana’s quarterback situation is brutal due to injuries, which has forced freshman Zander Diamont to get the nod, and he’s completing 46 percent of his passes for zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Shane Wynn and Nick Stoner have combined for more than 600 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have lost three straight games and were shutout in their most recent contest against Wisconsin two weeks ago. Gary Nova is completing 58 percent of his passes for 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and he’s probable despite a knee injury. Nova has thrown for three picks and one touchdown in his last three games, and Rutgers has 25 passing plays of 25 or more yards. Leonte Carroo and Andrew Turzilli have combined for more than 1,100 receiving yards and nine touchdowns, while Tyler Kroft has eight of his 13 receptions in his last four games. Rutgers ground game is averaging 3.9 yards per carry, as Desmon Peoples leads the way with 450 yards and three touchdowns. Rutgers has won four straight games when rushing for 150-plus yards. Defensively, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights are allowing 29.4 points, 422.8 yards, and they’ve forced 11 turnovers and 25 sacks. Steve Longa leads Rutgers with 64 tackles and Darius Hamilton has 7.5 tackles for loss.
The Hoosiers are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games and 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games overall. The Scarlet Knights are 4-9 ATS in their last 13 home games and 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games in November.
This is one of those games you'd probably like to avoid altogether due to both teams being lousy on both sides of the ball and having brutal records against the number. However, Rutgers is the better team and has had two weeks to prepare. Give me the home team by double digits.
