The UTEP Miners and Rice Owls meet Friday night at Rice Stadium.

The UTEP Miners have won four of their last five games and have improved their defense during this stretch. Still, UTEP’s ground game that’s averaging five yards per carry leads the way, as Aaron Jones and Nathan Jeffery have combined for more than 1,500 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. UTEP has 25 rushing plays of 20 or more yards and has won six of its last nine games when rushing for at least two scores. Jameill Showers is completing 55.7 percent of his passes for 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. Showers has zero touchdowns and one pick in his last two games. Ian Hamilton and Autrey Golden have combined for more than 600 receiving yards and four touchdowns, while Aaron Jones has caught three or more passes in five of his last six games. Defensively, the UTEP Miners are allowing 29.2 points, 368.8 yards, and they’ve forced 17 sacks and 17 turnovers. Wesley Miller leads UTEP with 53 tackles and Alvin Jones has 7.5 tackles for loss.

Rice vs. Texas El Paso - 11/21/14 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Rice Owls look to bounce back from their loss to Marshall and remain in the C-USA race. Driphus Jackson is completing 57.6 percent of his passes for 15 touchdowns and four interceptions. Jackson has four touchdowns and one pick in his last three games, as Rice has 23 passing plays of 25 or more yards. Jordan Taylor and Mario Hull have combined for more than 900 receiving yards and eight touchdowns, while Darik Dillard has caught at least one pass in nine of the 10 games this season. Rice’s ground game is averaging four yards per carry, as Jowan Davis leads the way with 824 yards and six touchdowns. Rice has 13 running plays of 20 or more yards and have won 12 of its last 14 games when rushing for at least two scores. Defensively, the Rice Owls are allowing 27.5 points, 382.3 yards, and they’ve forced 33 sacks and 15 turnovers. Alex Lyons leads Rice with 56 tackles and Brian Nordstrom has 16.5 tackles for loss.

The Miners are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 road games and 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Owls are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Miners are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 meetings in Rice and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 meetings overall.

The Rice Owls have been on a roll for the most part, are the better team and have owned UTEP ATS for over a decade. Seriously, you see that ATS record over the last 11 meetings? Give me Rice by double digits.
