TV: ESPN

The Virginia Cavaliers travel to Blacksburg to play the Virginia Tech Hokies on Friday night.

The Virginia Cavaliers improved to 5-6, 3-4 ACC with a huge win at home over the Miami Hurricanes 30-13 last weekend. The Cavaliers snapped a four game losing streak, falling to Duke, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Florida State in the past month. Against Miami, Virginia allowed 327 total yards, only 64 rushing yards, and forced two turnovers in the win. On the season, the Cavaliers defense is allowing only 24.1 points per game, which ranks 45th in the country. Virginia’s offense is averaging only 26.4 points per game, which ranks a below average 83rd in the country. In the win over Miami, QB Greyson Lambert completed 17 of 25 passes for 146 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. WR Canaan Severin caught a team high 4 balls for 55 yards and a score. RB Khalek Shepard had a great game, finishing with 22 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown. Virginia will now play their biggest rival and would love to end the season with a .500 record and become bowl eligible. The Cavaliers will head out on the road where they are 0-4 this season.

Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Virginia Cavaliers - 11/28/14 College Football Pick, Odds, and Prediction

USA TODAY Sports

The Virginia Tech Hokies dropped to 5-6, 2-5 ACC after losing at Wake Forest 6-3 in double-overtime last weekend. The Hokies have been a huge disappointment this season, losing four of their last five games. Against Wake Forest, the Hokies allowed only 234 total yards, 74 rushing yards, and forced one turnover. On the year, Virginia Tech’s defense is allowing an average of 20.5 points per game, which ranks 18th in the country. Offensively, the Hokies are averaging only 23.3 points per game, which ranks near the bottom of all teams in FBS competition. In the loss last weekend, Virginia Tech produced only 254 total yards and turned the ball over 3 times. QB Michael Brewer completed only 15 of 28 passes for 126 yards and one interception. WR Bucky Hodges caught 4 balls for 39 yards, while RB J.C. Coleman carried the ball 18 times for 98 yards for the Hokies. Virginia Tech will try to become bowl eligible with a victory on Friday. The Hokies will be in front of their home crowd; Virginia Tech is a lousy 2-4 at home this season.

Virginia Tech has won the last 10 meetings between these two teams, including a 10-point win last season at Virginia. Virginia has played pretty good at home this season, but they have not fared well on the road. Virginia Tech has been as disappointing as any team in the country this season and longtime head coach Frank Beamer might be on his way out after this season. I’m hesitant to take Virginia on the road after how they have played this year, but if they’re going to beat Virginia Tech, this is the year. I’m taking Virginia because I just can’t back the Hokies with how bad they look right now.
