The Appalachian State Mountaineers welcome the Idaho Vandals to Kidd Brewer Stadium Saturday.
The Idaho Vandals first season in the Sun Belt hasn't been a good one as they head in to the last game of the season with a 1-9 record. The Vandals year could be summed up as not enough scoring with opponents scoring too much which describes their 34-17 loss to visiting Troy. The Trojans ran and passed their way to 524 yards and 38 mnutes of possession while theVandals were pass heavy with 386 yards and a trio of turnovers. Quarterback Matt Linehan struggled to a 14-36 effort for 269 yards with a 64 yard scoring toss to Joshua McCain but his three interceptions including a pick six negated any positives. Jerrel Brown was the face of the Idaho run with 77 yards on 12 carries with a short scoring run.

When the Appalachian State Mountaineers lost to sub division Liberty many thought this was one of the worse teams in the FBS. However the Mountaineers haven't lost since with five consecutive victories that was capped off by a 35-16 rout of Louisiana-Lafayette to move to 6-5 with one game versus Idaho remaining. The Mountaineers dominated the Ragin' Cajuns on both sides of the ball with ULL held to just 259 yards and 3-13 on third down. ASU racked up 427 yards with balance and more running then throwing. Taylor Lamb threw for 195 yards with a 40 yard scoring strike to Montez McGuire along with a lone interception. Marcus Cox was the workhorse on the ground with 151 yards on 36 carries with a pair of TD's.
The under is 4-1-1 in Vandals last 6 games following a S.U. loss while the Vandals are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 450 total yards in their previous game with the Vandals going 2-7 ATS vs. a team with a winning record. For Appalachian State the over is 5-1 in Mountaineers last 6 games on fieldturf while the Mountaineers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November. The spread is a worry but the way the Mountaineers are playing with a Bowl invite in the balance I'll back Appalachian State...
