Villanova is known for their prowess on the hardwood but their football program is and has been solid although they don’t receive nearly as much press. The Wildcats lost in the FCS playoffs last season to Sam Houston State although they were without the services of dual threat quarterback John Robertson who hurt his knee in practice. Robinson is back after throwing for over 2,800 yards and adding 1,078 rushing yards. With a veteran offensive line in front of him and two of his top receivers back Andy Talley’s offense should be potent in 2015. The defense returns eight so another year of playing together has to be a good thing although a healthy Robinson is the key for the Wildcats success.
The Connecticut Huskies look to rebound from a miserable 2-10 season where one of their wins came against Stony Brook. The Huskies struggled on both sides of the ball as they were outscored 30-15 but are hoping to change things with Bryant Shirreffs at QB with Tim Boyle beginning the year as back up after throwing for 355 yards. Noel Thomas and Dhameer Bradley combined for 21 catches and Ron Johnson and Max DeLorenzo combined for less then 800 rushing yards so he’ll need these guys among others to step things up for the offense to improve. Two starters are gone from the O-Line but five return with starting experience so this is an offense that might need time to gel. The defense has virtually everyone back so keeping the scoreboard under control is job number one.
The Wildcats are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games. The Huskies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games in September and are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games while going 6-1 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games. As a Delaware fan I absolutely despise Villanova football but they are very good and well coached and are championship caliber so I think their chances are good…
