The Abilene Christian Wildcats visit Bulldog Stadium to oppose the Fresno State Bulldogs.
The Abilene Christian Wildcats look to pull the road upset of Fresno State on opening day. The Wildcats are ranked in the bottom half of the Southland Conference and are not given much of a chance even thought they defeated Troy in 2014. The key to winning offensively will be how effective quarterback Parker McKenzie fares against a very good Fresno State secondary. McKenzie threw for nearly 3,100 yards and 22 touchdowns a season ago and is one of the higher ranked signal callers in the conference. De’Andre Brown approached 1,000 yards on the ground in 2014 with an impressive seven yard average to give Fresno something else to worry about.

The Fresno State Bulldogs were 5-1 in the Mountain West but might be hard pressed to equal that performance with plenty of new faces leading the air game. Quarterback Zack Greenlee gave the Bulldogs 41 passes a season ago and has just one of the team’s top receivers back in Aaron Peck who caught 34 passes for over 400 yards. Of course putting the ball in the air might not be a necessity with Fresno State turning to their rushing attack often. Marteze Waller pounded opposing defenses for 1,368 yards on 229 carries and he will likely see plenty of work for FSU with three offensive linemen returning to open up some running lanes.
The under is 4-0 in Bulldogs last 4 games on fieldturf and the under is 4-0 in Bulldogs last 4 games overall while the over is 5-1-1 in Bulldogs last 7 non-conference games. I’m not sure the trends mean a whole lot but from my viewpoint I think Abilene Christian will have problems stopping the Bulldogs on the ground. Fresno State shouldn’t have a problem winning but I think ACU will represent themselves well enough for this to go over…
