The Iowa Hawkeyes play host to FCS power the Illinois State Redbirds to kickoff the season.
The Illinois State Redbirds fell a mere field goal short from winning it all in 2014 in a 29-27 defeat to North Dakota State in the title game and aim to go all the way this year. The Redbirds were deadly on offense as they were able to run and throw their way to 38 points per game with RB Marshaun Coprich (370-2274) leading the way. Quarterback Tre Roberson could air it out as well with over 3,200 passing yards and added another 1,000+ yards on the ground. Anthony Warrum and Jon-Marc-Anderson will lead the receiving corps but need to improve upon their 30 combined receptions. The nucleus of a Redbirds defense that gave up less then 22 points returns although the team lost eleven starters overall.

The Iowa Hawkeyes finished 2014 at 7-6 and struggled down the stretch with a 1-4 record to close the season which included a Bowl loss to Tennessee. With Jake Ruddock taking over 2,400 passing yards to graduation the torch is passed to CJ Beathard who threw for 645 yards in 2014. Tevaun Smith is the top returning receiving option back but there is talent available and potential in the air. Jordan Canzeri (102-494) and LeShun Daniels Jr. become the rushing attack with grinder Mark Weisman gone. The defensive line is the biggest concern for the defensive side of the football but the unit as a whole has plenty of highly ranked players so the cupboard is not bare.
The over is 5-1-1 in Redbirds last 7 games overall and is 3-1-1 in Redbirds last 5 road games while going 3-1-1 in Redbirds last 5 non-conference games. The over is 3-0-1 in Hawkeyes last 4 home games and the
under is 5-0 in Hawkeyes last 5 games in September while the over is 6-1-1 in Hawkeyes last 8 games overall. This could go either way and the line might go even higher so I think you wait if you like Illinois State or grab Iowa now if not…
