The New Mexico State Aggies look to buck the odds with a season opening upset of the Florida Gators.
Jim McElwain takes over an underachieving Florida program that went 7-5 in 2014 and outscored opponents 30-22. The Gators were known for their defense and with a few new faces on the defensive line this unit will be tough especially if a pass rush is found. With Jeff Driskel transferring freshman Will Grier looks like the number one quarterback with DeMarcus Robinson returning as the top receiver and he is the only proven commodity. Kelvin Taylor is the leading returning runner and will look to improve on last season’s 565 yards but that is a tall order with only one player back who started ten contests a season ago so the new coaching staff has some work to do.

The New Mexico State Aggies haven’t enjoyed a great deal of success on the gridiron and 2014 was no different with the team losing ten straight to go 2-10. The pass happy Aggies might put the ball in the air 500 times and hopefully Tyler Rogers can cut back on his 23 interceptions. The good news are the return of Teldrick Morgan and Joshua Bowen but the Aggies should have other available targets for Rogers who did spread the ball around. Larry Rose III will be shooting for another 1,000+ season on the ground with an experienced offensive line to run behind. The good news/bad news scenario is an experienced defense that struggled to get off the field.
The over is 6-0 in Aggies last 6 vs. SEC and Aggies are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 vs. SEC while the Over is 4-0 in Aggies last 4 games in September. The Gators are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 vs. S-Belt while going 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. This is a lot of chalk but in my view Florida is the only way to go…
