The Pittsburgh Panthers hope to avoid the upset bid of the Youngstown State Penguins.
Bo Pellini has landed in Youngstown State who look to improve upon last season’s 7-5 record and 5th place finish in the MVFC. The Penguins outscored opponents behind a bruising rushing attack that averaged over 200 yards per contest. YSU favors the run with good reason with Martin Ruiz being the workhorse with 1,350 yards on 256 totes while Jody Webb totaled 715 yards on 103 carries and a nifty seven yard average. Quarterback Hunter Wells gained some valuable experience as a freshman with 1,772 passing yards with Andrew Wells (54-976) and Andre Stubbs (28-256) being the top two returning targets. The defense generally controlled the scoreboard but didn’t force many turnovers.

Pat Narduzzi inherits a 6-7 Pitt Panthers squad that outscored the opposition 32-26 and lost five games by just 23 points. The Panthers offense gets back plenty of skill players with quarterback Chad Voytik bringing back over 2,200 passing yards and 610 rushing yards back. Tyler Boyd was the favorite target with 1,261 yards on 78 receptions and the Panthers would like to find him some help. James Conner was a beast on the ground with nearly 300 carries producing 1,765 yards while Chris James and Rachid Ibrahim will get touches. The line loses a pair of All ACC performers but returns four players with starting experience. A decent defense has enough returning experience where improvement should be expected.
The Penguins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while going 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Panthers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 non-conference games and the over is 5-1 in Panthers last 6 games on grass while going 5-1 in Panthers last 6 games overall. Like him or hate him, Bo Pellini makes Youngstown State a threat and I can see a cover here…
