The Florida Atlantic Owls make the long trip to Oklahoma to take the field with the Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane had a miserable 2014 at 2-10 and getting outscored 39-25. If experience counts for anything the Golden Hurricane should do plenty of scoring. Dane Evans threw for 3,100 yards but 17 interceptions on 55% were not good. Virtually everyone that caught a pass returns with Keevan Lucas and Keyarris Garrett leading the way. Everyone is back in the running game with Zack Langer topping the team with 801 yards but he was the only guy that averaged at least four yards per carry and whether his numbers improve behind a veteran offensive line remains to be seen. The defense is strong in the front seven but the secondary has a few holes to fill.

The Florida Atlantic Owls were a gritty team in 2014 but some would say otherwise based on their 3-9 record. The offense lacked consistency and quarterback Jaquez Johnson has to shoulder some of the blame with less then 58% completions with just over 2,200 yards. FAU needs more from their air attack but Jenson Stoshak and his 511 is the top receiver back. Jay Warren and Johnson combined for almost 1,200 yards on the ground with those numbers expected to rise behind an experienced offensive line. The Owls need help stopping the run and if they can do that the secondary will make plays defending the pass.
The Owls are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games in September and are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games while going 16-5 ATS in their last 21 road games. The Golden Hurricane are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games in September while the over is 7-0 in Golden Hurricane last 7 games in September and is 4-0 in Golden Hurricane last 4 games on fieldturf. First game of the year is always tough and even tougher here but I have a hard time ignoring the points…
