The New Mexico State Aggies host the Georgia State Panthers in a Sun Belt tilt in week two.
The Georgia State Panthers opened the season as a seven point favorite against FBS newcomer Charlotte and promptly dropped a 23-20 decision. In a sloppy contest the 49ers totaled 408 yards and gave the ball away four times while GSU totaled 392 yards with an interception and a pair of lost fumbles. As expected the Panthers did not run the ball often of well with Taz Bateman’s 61 yards on eight carries being the only significant yardage. Nick Arbuckle gave Georgia State 299 yards through the air on 25-43 with a pair of touchdowns and an interception but the offense struggled to get in the end zone. The Panthers had nine players record receptions but they were unpredictable once again as they were in 2014.
USA TODAY Sports
The New Mexico State Aggies were in the wrong place at the wrong time in a 61-13 defeat at Florida in their 2015 opener. The scoreboard reflected the boxscore where the Gators rolled up over 600 yards and 28 first downs while the Aggies were held to 200 yards and eight first downs. This was ‘only’ a 34-13 deficit heading to the locker room before Florida pulled away in the second. NMSU needed a viable rushing attack but Larry Rose III and his 64 yards and a touchdown was not enough to draw attention from the Gators. The strength of the Aggies is putting the ball in the air but quarterback Tyler Rogers never got going with 128 yards on 14-27 with a 31 yard scoring strike to Teldrick Morgan. That wasn’t enough offense with Florida punting once.
I don’t know what to say about Georgia State’s season opening loss to FBS newbie Charlotte except to say they need some more playmakers which was the same thing we saw a season ago. New Mexico State was a stat builder for Florida and nothing more although I think they have an edge in this match up they won by three last year but I don’t see much of an advantage…
