The Stanford Cardinal and the Central Florida Knights face off on Saturday Night in Palo Alto in a college football battle of teams who disappointed in week one.

The Stanford Cardinal were favored at Northwestern in week one but they just couldn’t put points on the board as they lost by 10 to the Wildcats. Stanford QB Kevin Hogan looked ordinary completing 57 percent of his passes for 155 yards and an interception. The Cardinal rushing attack was led by Christian McCaffrey who averaged 5.5 yards per carry gaining 66 yards total and Autin Hooper had five reception and Devon Cajuste had four catches. The Stanford defense was torn up on the ground allowing 225 yards and 330 total yards while not getting a sack. Blake Martinez led the Stanford defense with 14 tackles, Peter Kalamayi has 12 tackles and Aziz Shittu and Kevin Anderson had eight tackles each. Stanford will need to put last week’s game behind them in a hurry.

USA TODAY Sports

The Central Florida Knights led by 11 points at halftime in their opening game but they didn’t score again as they were upset by FIU. UCF QB Justin Holman completed 68 percent of his passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns and he ran for another 18 yards. The Central Florida had a rough night running the football with Dontravious Wilson averaging 2.8 yards per carry and William Stanback averaging 0.6 yards per carry for 6.0 total yards. UCF receivers Tre’Quan Smith and Jordan Akins each had nine catches while Akins had two touchdowns. The UCF defense allowed 391 yards with 260 of them coming through the air without registering a sack. Mark Rucker and Shaqulll Griffin led UCF with nine tackles each and Drico Johnson had eight tackles. UCF will need to run the ball better if they hope to have a chance in this game that involves one of the longer road trips in football.

Stanford is 4-1 against the spread in their last five home games, 12-3-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 7-2 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread. Central Florida is 5-2 against the spread following a loss, 4-1 against the spread following a game that they didn’t cover the point spread, and 2-7 against the spread in their last nine road games against a team with a losing home record.

This looks to be a defensive style game at least low scoring so getting this many points the better play is taking the underdog.
